Georgia is widely considered an underrated "foodie" destination, with its rich and flavorful cuisine drawing influences from the Caucasus, Turkey, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and even its historical position along the Silk Road. While there are dozens of delectable Georgian dishes we would recommend, here are the ones you can't leave the country without trying:
Khachapuri - Georgia's national dish is Khachapuri, a soft, cheese-filled bread that varies by region. One of the most famous variations is the open-faced Adjaruli version, which is a boat shaped version filled with cheese, herbs and egg.
Khinkali- Khinkali is a Georgian dumpling stuffed with cheese or meat, which originated in the mountainous regions of Pshavi, Mtiuleti and Khevsureti. Khinkali is meant to be eaten by hand by holding the dumpling by its stem and taking biting off the top.
Churchkhela - Churchkhela is a candle-shaped candy made from grape must, nuts, and flour and sometimes almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, chocolate and raisins.
