World's Largest Byzantine Wine Press Discovered

Archeologists in Israel unearthed the a Byzantine wine press in Yavne, just south of Tel Aviv, that is capable of producing 2 million liters of wine a year. The massive complex dates back 1,500 years to the 4th-5th century CE and includes five wine presses, kilns to make clay jugs, and even warehouses used to age and bottle the wine.


The Israel Antiquities Authority plans to open the site to visitors as an archeological park in the near future.
